The Demain Addition prioritized two things the existing house lacked: a covered outdoor living area usable through Girdwood's long shoulder seasons, and a studio-garage volume with genuine daylight.
The covered porch is engineered with 150 psf snow loading and a heated slab — conditions that allow the space to function as a true outdoor room from September through April.
A south-facing clerestory over the studio brings full-spectrum daylight 15 feet into the interior, eliminating the dim, cave-like quality that afflicts most attached garages in the Girdwood forest.
