Z Architects excels at providing project and master planning on all scales. Prior work includes resorts, large-scale hospitality developments, commercial and mixed-use infill projects, and backcountry developments. We specialize particularly in remote projects — developing sites for eco-tourism, remote lodges, and cabin complexes. Our master plans respond to the site, environment, and specific needs of each client.

Through clear communication and deep understanding of each project type and site, we go above and beyond a client's programmatic goals and expectations.

We offer residential design to accommodate all sizes and budgets, including multi-family and single-family. We promote open communication and collaboration to achieve the best design for each client's lifestyle, aesthetic, budget, and location. We focus on natural daylight, solar orientation, views, protected outdoor micro-climates, arctic entries, thermal efficiency, and durable northern materials.

Our interior design team collaborates with clients to develop interiors that fit each individual project and use. From custom home interiors to commercial build-outs and tenant improvements, we interpret programmatic needs based on lifestyle, aesthetic intent, and quality products. From concept through completion: drawings, product specification, construction oversight, and final installation.

Z Architects strives to design, source, and construct projects from materials and labor found in Alaska. We design responsibly by responding to a project's location, climate, and solar exposure. We use thermally efficient building techniques and green, local materials. Our team is familiar with LEED principles and employs applicable sustainable methods whenever possible.

Permitting is a necessary part of almost any building project in Alaska. The process can be quite challenging for those unfamiliar with the necessary steps. We have extensive experience with the Girdwood–Anchorage Municipality permitting process, as well as the Alaska Department of Public Safety (State Fire Marshall). We are happy to assist with the permitting needs of our clients.
