Studio · Est. 2003 · Girdwood

A small studio, built around one idea: that the climate is the brief.

We are a small team working out of a studio in Girdwood at the base of Alyeska Resort. We accept four to six new projects each year so that every principal can stay close to every drawing.

§ 01 — Method

Six movements.

  1. 01

    Listen

A conversation, a site visit, a long letter. We do not produce drawings until we understand the client and the place.

  2. 02

    Site

We walk every site through more than one season — sun angles, prevailing wind, water table, the path of the snow drift.

  3. 03

    Schema

Hand sketches, physical study models at 1:50. We commit to one architectural idea before we draw a single wall section.

  4. 04

    Detail

Wall sections at 1:5. Every junction drawn. We engineer the envelope before we choose the finishes.

  5. 05

    Build

We stay on the site through construction — weekly walks, shop drawing review, mock-ups in the field.

  6. 06

    Care

A handover binder, a one-year walk, and a ten-year envelope review. The building keeps being our project.

§ 02 — People

A small bench, deep on every project.
