The Crotty Residence is organized around a simple sectional strategy: the garage and lower utility level are pushed into the hillside, topped with a living roof, while the main living level sits above to capture unobstructed Chugach Range views.
Heavy timber posts mark the primary entries and support the roof overhangs — proportional elements that give the building scale against the natural landscape surrounding it.
South-facing glazing runs the full width of the main living level, with operable sections that allow passive cooling during Anchorage's warm summer months and frame a constant view of the Alaska Range.
