The A-frame is one of the most recognizable building forms in the Alaskan mountain landscape — a silhouette that has defined ski cabin architecture since the 1960s. This project revisits the typology with contemporary performance standards.
New insulation details fill the rafter bays with closed-cell spray foam and add a continuous exterior rigid layer — achieving R-50 in the roof assembly while maintaining the A-frame's slender profile.
Triple-pane glazing at the gable ends eliminates the cold glass radiation that makes traditional A-frames uncomfortable in deep winter, while radiant floor heat in the concrete slab provides quiet, even warmth throughout.
